Dublin North Central Garda Youth Awards 2019

Young community stars shone bright at Croke Park when the Dublin North Central Garda Youth awards took place recently!

The annual awards recognise outstanding young people between the ages of 13 and 21 who do good work in our local community areas covered by the Bridewell, Store Street and Moutjoy Garda Stations and are proudly supported each year by the stadium.

Speaking at the awards, Croke Park Stadium Director, Peter McKenna said how important the awards are and praised the young winners for their kindness, determination, courage and dedication to others in our community.

Chief Superintendent for the Dublin North Central Garda Division, Patrick McMenamin also spoke and highlighted how important it is to recognise the valuable contributions which our young people are making in society daily which often gets forgotten.

Also returning to speak at the ceremony was one of the overall Garda Youth Award winners from 2017; Mark Harmon from Brádóg Youth Project.  Mark spoke passionately about his life experience, his community and what winning the overall award for their special media project on O’Devaney Gardens meant to him.

Corinthians Boxing Club from Dublin 1 won the ‘Group Award’ in recognition of the contribution they make in their local community area. With all coaches in the club volunteering their time to coach their young members, all the hard work and dedication is paying off! Overall Dublin North Central Garda Youth Award Winner

‘The Dialogue Group’ were the overall Dublin North Central Garda Youth Award winners for 2019.  It’s a group of ten young people from three local youth groups in our community; the Neighbourhood Youth Project(2), the Belvedere Youth Club and Swan Youth Services, that came together to discuss ways to improve relationships with the local gardai in our community.  Through their engagement to the process, this small group made a very positive impact in our community as they worked to encourage and build stronger ties and more positive engagement with local Gardaí. The judging panel were unanimous in their decision; recognising the group’s positive attitude, empathy & commitment to building stronger community relations and especially how the group have become a great role model for building bridges in our community.
