Greener - on & off the pitch!

Energy Efficiency

Energy efficiency is an area of major focus for Croke Park.  In 2008, we put in place a state-of-the-art environmental improvement programme covering the stadiums electricity usage to reduce carbon emissions by two thirds.
Since then, we have introduced a range of energy efficiency measures throughout the stadium, including a bespoke management system for the pitch, and further reduced energy usage by 20%.

Water Conservation

Croke Park is a member of the Water Stewardship Programme, run by Irish Water. This programme, accredited to the European Water Stewardship Standards (EWS).
This programme is designed to help reduce water consumption and introduce more efficient water management and monitoring across all stadium facilities and operations.

In 2021, 23 new, state-of-the-art water bottle filling-points were installed throughout the stadium. In 2023, 7 additional stations were installed bringing the total to 30.

Staff, volunteers and supporters are now encouraged to bring their own empty water bottles to matches, to help further reduce the amount of plastic rubbish that is generated on match days.
