Delegates: Year 2/3 and Senior Cycle Students
Event: RCSI Satellite Campus - Approximately 616 lectures
Sector: Medical Education
Date: August 2020 - April 2021
When the pandemic hit, the RCSI needed additional space for their medical students to continue face-to-face teaching safely. Croke Park was the chosen venue and successfully hosted this Satellite Campus for over 8 months. This included three large teaching spaces, two cafes, a gym and two prayer rooms along with evening study space. Lectures were livestreamed to students who were not on site by onsite AV team AVCOM.
In addition to the Cusack Satellite Campus, space was later required for senior cycle students and this was accommodated on the other side of the stadium in our Hogan Mezzanine. Students could access complimentary HD WIFI and large car/bike parking facilities on site.
Specific Requirements & Solutions
- Set-up: Three main teaching spaces with students seated at a 2m distance. Lectures were livestreamed from the main teaching room into two additional rooms and to those studying remotely.
- Catering: Two cafes in the Cusack Campus along with a café in the Hogan side for the Senior Cycle students. These cafes served a selection of hot food, barista style coffee and snacks. Café seating was socially distanced, and students also had the added benefit of sitting in the stands overlooking the iconic Croke Park pitch.
- AV/Connectivty: AVCOM worked with the college team to manage the AV for the satellite campus hybrid set up. Lectures in the main room were livestreamed to the overflow rooms and to those students at home and abroad with high-speed complimentary HD WiFi.
The Croke Park and RCSI teams worked together to successfully ensure all RCSI medical students continued face-to-face teaching safely during the pandemic. The variety of spaces and professionalism of the teams were noted and highly commended by the RCSI team.
