Foundational minute book of the John Dillon (Naas) GAA club in which the formative minutes of the club are recorded. The minute book contains a record of all decisions taken by the club between 1887 and 1889. Administrative decisions include the formation of a club committee, the acquisition of a playing grounds and the formation of a debating society and band attached to the club. In addition to the general administrative recordings, the minute book sets the political context in which the club was established: topics recorded include the effect the 1887 split and 1888 reconstruction had on the club; the GAA ban on British military and police; the relationship between the John Dillon club and the imprisonment of nationalist leaders, and the amalgamation of the club with a rival athletics body in direct response to police brutality in Naas.
