Maurice Davin, 1842 – 1927

Maurice Davin was born near Carrick-on-Suir, County Tipperary. Along with his brothers, Tom and Pat, he excelled in athletics in the 1870s and also took part in rowing, boxing, rugby and cricket. Davin played a pivotal role in the early years of the GAA, acting as the Association’s first President and drawing up the first set of rules for both hurling and football.
