The Irish War of Independence, a political and militarystruggle, lasted from January 1919 – July 1921. 

Early on the morning of Sunday 21st November1920, IRA Volunteers directed by Michael Collins assassinated 14 suspectedBritish intelligence agents in their boarding houses and hotel rooms in thecentre of Dublin. Later that afternoon, the British authorities sent a militaryforce allegedly to search for arms in Croke Park where a football match betweenTipperary and Dublin was being played. In the mayhem that followed, 14civilians were killed and over 70 injured. This day became known as BloodySunday.
