Phased opening of National Handball and Croke Park Community Centre
A special update from the directors of the National Handball and Croke Park Community Centre CLG
The directors of the National Handball and Croke Park Community Centre CLG are delighted to announce the phased opening of our magnificent new Centre for handball and community use.
As you know the centre is currently being used as a HSE COVID testing centre, providing a vital service to the people of the north inner city, for which the local community and its representatives should be so proud.
In response to a HSE request, we have agreed that our new facility can continue to be used to provide this service for a further agreed period, however, we have agreed arrangements so that the centre will be made available for handball and community use in the evening during that period.
In continuing our support for frontline staff in the national fight against Covid, it is necessary that our community and sporting use will be achieved on a phased basis, starting with the handball courts.
From the 15th of December, the handball courts will be available for community and handball purposes between 7:00pm and 11:00 p.m. Monday to Saturday inclusive.
Bookings can be made by contacting Thomas Coyle at the Centre between 7pm & 11pm only on 01 8192921 or email
[email protected]
The next phase will be the opening of the café and while we are working towards this, it will depend on getting the approval of the Environmental Health Officer, which it is hoped will be obtained in the coming weeks.
Further phases will include:
- The use of the cafe as a bar
- The making available of the community space currently being used by the HSE
- The final withdrawal of HSE from the Centre
There is work to be done in changing the fit out of the bar and it is the intention of the directors to consult with the community and other stakeholders before finalising the design of the work to done, after which, the work will then be carried out.
Further updates on the timelines for these further phases will be issued as soon as possible. We thank you all for continued support in the fight against Covid and for your enduring patience regarding the full opening of the centre.
