Close to Croke Park: A Publication from the GAA Museum & Fighting Words

The GAA Museum in partnership with Fighting Words is thrilled to announce the publication of Close to Croke Park.

The book is the culmination of a year-long project which began as part of the museum’s programme of events to mark the 100th anniversary of Bloody Sunday on 21st November 2020.

Over the past year a group of residents from the local areas surrounding Croke Park have come together to discuss Bloody Sunday as well as their memories of the stadium. With the help of Fighting Words volunteers, their stories have been written down and brought to life in this new book.

Close to Croke Park contains short stories and poetry from lots of new writers and is an enjoyable read filled with local humour, history, and characters and to celebrate it's release we have given you special access to one of the short stories - 'Along The Canal' by Mel T MacGiobĂșin. You can read this brilliant story below.

The cover artwork is by David Sweeney and is based on his painting Transilience, which was commissioned by the GAA Museum to commemorate the Bloody Sunday centenary.

Copies of the book can be purchased from the GAA Museum giftshop – just in time for Christmas!
