Croke Park Classic Ticket Release

20th September 2013

Tickets in all areas at the Croke Park Classic go on general sale within Europe on Saturday 21st September. Stand tickets are priced from €40 in the end zone to €80 in zone 1. Terrace tickets are priced at €20 and premium tickets are available for €95.

The Croke Park Classic will see the University of Central Florida (UCF) host Penn State in their 2014 Season Opener in GAA HQ on the 30th August 2014. This is the first time UCF and Penn State have played outside the United States.

The event was launched in Ireland at the Leinster Football Final at Croke Park on 14 July and more recently in the US ahead of the 3rd game of the Big Ten Conference season between Penn State University and the UCF.  This was the last time the two teams will play each other before they meet in their 2014 season opener on the 30th August next year.

The winner of the Croke Park Classic will be presented with the Dan Rooney Trophy, named in honour of Dan Rooney.  Chairman of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dan Rooney attended the Croke Park Classic launch in the US and was with Paraic Duffy at the coin toss on pitch before the game.

A key player in the GAA’s redevelopment plans for Croke Park in the early nineties, Dan Rooney has been both a passionate fan of Gaelic Games and big supporter of the Association during his many visits and residence in Ireland over the last fifty years.

The Dan Rooney Trophy is a replica American Football made of bog yew and Pittsburgh steel.  The yew comes from what remains of forests which grew 4,200 years ago in the Irish midlands. The steel is from Heinz Field, home of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Croke Park Classic brings together Veteran Florida Knights Coach George O’Leary and Penn State Nittany Lions coach Bill O’Brien. O’Leary mentored O’Brien at Georgia Tech from 1995 – 2001 and the two coaches, both of Irish heritage, have shared a friendship since that time.

The 2014 Croke Park Classic will take place on Saturday 30th August.  Tickets are on general sale from 21st September to 31st October and can be purchased now on tickets.ie and ticketmaster.ie.
