First time nominees, Croke Park, are delighted to have been honoured with the Excellence in Environment Award – Large Indigenous Company for their initiative, Greener. On and off the Pitch, at the ninth annual Chambers Ireland Corporate Social Responsibility awards.

The awards were partnered by Business in the Community Ireland, run in association with the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government and took place on Thursday 27 September at the Burlington Hotel, Dublin. In attendance was Minister of State for the NewERA project, Minister Fergus O’Dowd T.D. along with top companies involved in CSR activity in Ireland and abroad.

The independent judging panel is made up of respected individuals working in the field of CSR and were impressed with Greener: On and Off the Pitch’s achievement in reaching successive environmental goals in order to maintain Croke Park’s position as a world leader in venue sustainability.

“Sustainability is the key pillar in how we manage our business and being awarded the ‘Excellence in Environment Award’ shows our commitment in building on our environmental and sustainability performance. Croke Park is proud to be a venue leader in the area of sustainability and the goals of our new ‘Greener – on and off the pitch’ initiative has some challenging but exciting goals”. Alan Gallagher, Head of Stadium Operations.

Croke Park has become one of the first sports stadiums in the world to achieve certification in the recently released ISO 20121 Event Sustainability Management System International Standard. This certification was awarded to Croke Park in June 2012 for achieving the highest standards in sustainable event management, demonstrating commitment to constant improvements in the stadium’s sustainability record and showing that sustainability is at the centre of all stadium activities. ISO 20121 is designed to help events organisations such as Croke Park and the GAA to recognise their impact on the economy, society and the environment.

“Croke Park Stadium is delighted to have achieved the ‘Excellence in Environment’ Award in the 2012 Chambers Ireland CSR Awards. The achievement recognises the emphasis which has been placed on Environmental & Sustainability practices at Croke Park since 2008. The Award is predominantly the result of the teamwork approach taken by Stadium staff, stakeholders and members of the public in achieving environmental objectives and implementing green initiatives which are embedded throughout our operational practices”. Tracy Bunyan, Events and Operations Executive.
