NEW: TY Workshops at the GAA Museum
For teachers looking for something memorable for your next Transition Year trip, why not book one of the GAA Museum’s new TY Workshops and take in a tour of Croke Park?
The new package, exclusively for Transition Year groups, includes a stadium tour and GAA Museum visit as well as a workshop designed with TYs in mind. The cost is €10 per student and there are two options to choose from.
Option 1: The Life of the GAA Journalist
Date: November 10th 2015
Time: 10.00 and 11.30
Speaker: Jacqui Hurley
Tour focus: Former Cork camogie player and Irish basketball star Jacqui Hurley is a well-known face on RTÉ television and voice on RTÉ radio. In 2009 she made history when she became the first ever female presenter of Sports Sunday in the 40-year period of the show. During this workshop, Jacqui will discuss her own career progression and her daily working life before a questions and answers session with students wishing to develop a career in the sports media arena. Jacqui has worked across television, radio, print and online making her the perfect role model for aspiring sports journalists.
Option 2: Mindfulness Workshop with Diarmuid Lyng
Date: November 11th 2015
Time: 10.00 and 13.30
Speaker: Diarmuid Lyng
Workshop focus: Teacher, journalist, travel writer and former Wexford hurling captain Diarmuid ‘Gizzy’ Lyng will guide a one and a half hour experiential workshop with class groups. This highly impactful workshop will include class participation and group work that will address everyday issues facing students. The aim is for students to have honest peer to peer conversations about their challenges and their ambitions and to realise ways to be who they want to be. The session will deal with respect for alternative views and opinions and Diarmuid will draw on his own experiences both on and off the hurling pitch.
For bookings: Only 100 students can be accommodated per session, so places are extremely limited. All workshops must be booked in advance by emailing Gemma on firstname.lastname@example.org or phoning 01 819 2374. Places will be filled on a first-come first-served basis at a rate of €10 per student.
