Context

Biographical history
Micheál MacCarthaigh (1907-1982) was the youngest of a family that were very involved in the social and sporting life of Waterford in the first half of the twentieth century. Micheál was involved in the GAA, the Gaelic League, the Pioneers Association and the De La Salle Past Pupils Association. He was Secretary of the East Waterford Divisional Board of the GAA from 1938 to 1949. Prior to that he was the Registrar of the Eastern Board. Micheál, and his brother Daniel, were also involved in the De La Salle Club and both reported on GAA matches for local newspapers in Waterford.

Scope and Content
This collection consists of official East Waterford Divisional Board documents including material used at the Divisional Board’s Annual Conventions (predominantly agendas and annual balance sheets); correspondence between MacCarthaigh and various sources on topics including the finances of the Board, objections and appeals, transfers and registrations and the organisation of games within the Division. The collection also contains a series of referee reports for games held within the division between 1944 and1949. A quantity of of the documents relate to the ‘Waterford Gaelic Field Committee’-these documents record the management of the Gaelic Field
